Every human being wants to know how to be close to God. Eternal life is defined in John 17:4 - it is knowing Him relationally, from the heart. We are in Christ and Christ is in us. That's the closeness of location. But there's another kind of closeness - that of friendship through the heart. That's the closeness of relationship.

A special Labor Day broadcast! The Word of God has a lot to say about work. Today we take a look at just a few passages that speak to work. The work of God is this - to believe in the One he has sent (John 6:29-30). Our work is simple faith in Jesus Christ. Paul had a labor of love to share the good news of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 2:8-9). He reminds us, "your labor in the Lord is not in vain." We are called to live by faith. As we do, we will see incredible things happen in and through our lives. We are God's workmanship and we have been created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:8-9). As we live by faith in Jesus, the work we are called to do, we will see good works flowing in and through us. Where do these good works take place? Only in church? Only on mission fields? No, it's in everyday life! As Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 3:22 "I saw that there was nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work." We hope you enjoy this special edition of Basic Gospel!

So many ask, "How can I be close to God?" And often that has to do with feeling. They want to feel close to God. But closeness to God has to do with location, not a feeling. Our feelings change, but the truth of Christ in you will never change. We are one with Him in spirit. "Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure." Philippians 2:12-13

Hebrews 7:23-25 Because Jesus lives forever he has a permanent priesthood and he is able to save us completely.

How do we draw near to God? Through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. God took the initiative to solve our problem through the gift of His Son. "yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist." 1 Corinthians 8:6 "Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. ..." Colossians 2:16-23

You and I as believers in Christ are as close to Jesus as we'll ever get. "Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them. Joshua 1:5,6 " Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'" Hebrews 13:5
