The Veil is Taken Away

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

"...how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!" To experience this glory from the inside out the veil has to be removed by Jesus. Much like the glory filled the tabernacle, the glory now fills us. It's not that the Old was bad, it's that the New is so much better.

Declared Righteous, Holy, and Perfect in Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

In Hebrews 9:16-17 "In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living." This will has to do with the what happens to the assets of the one who made it. Who made this New Covenant will? God did. So what had to happen for it to take effect? The death of Jesus. And when did it go into effect? The day Jesus died. So not only did Jesus fulfill the old covenant, He ushered in the New Covenant.

  • We come into the world under the law of sin and death. But when the cross of Jesus intervenes in our life, we are set free from the law of sin and death and made alive by the Spirit of God.
  • The cross was the place of change and when we respond to Jesus it becomes a place of change for us.
  • The day you came to Christ is the day you were released from the Old and given the New.
  • What about 1 John 1:9?

Take Hold of the New

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Paul's missionary journey's were ministering the New Covenant. It seems that people are always trying to mix the old and the new. But the Bible just won't let us have it that way. The old is set aside because it is weak and useless. As Gentiles it's not that we abandon the old, we simply take hold of the new.

The Law Makes Nothing Perfect

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Paul was interested in ministering life to those that were dead. The Old Covenant Law is totally set aside. Hebrews 10 states, He sets aside the first to old the new.

Let the Message of Christ Dwell Among You

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Paul discovered that the law couldn't give him life. He thought it could. But only the Spirit can give life. 2 Corinthians 3:6 states "the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life".

  • I was told it's wrong to be baptized only in the name of Jesus. So I'm concerned that I did the wrong thing.
  • Daniel calls with encouragement from Colossians 3:16-17 "Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."

The Spirit Gives Life

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

2 Corinthians 3:6 "He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." When Adam and Even ate the fruit they died spiritually and since then all have come into this world dead spiritually. The law shows us that we are separated from the life of God. The Spirit transforms us from the inside out.

We Are New Covenant

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We live in the New Covenant. In 2 Corinthians 3 Paul talks about this. It's so vitally important to understand this.

  • Jesus talks about those who keep my commandments. 1 John 3:23 "And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us."
  • We know we're called to spread the Word with everyone. We know someone can't come to God unless He draws them, so is election for everyone?

Ministers of a New Covenant

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

It is New Covenant month here at Basic Gospel. It is important for us as believers to understand we're no longer in the Old Covenant... we're in the New Covenant. If we're going to grow in grace we need to understand this New Covenant. 2 Corinthians 3:1-6 "He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." v6

  • 2 Corinthians 5:10 states we will appear before the judgment seat of Christ. Is this judgment for sins?

Let It Be Grace

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Today we are reclaiming the word "grace". It is grace that teaches us to say "no" to un-righteousness. It's grace that moves us to give. So many attack grace. Grace stands on it's own because grace is connected to Jesus Christ. He stands on His own. It's all Jesus.

  • As Christians we're all supposed to be one. So which denomination is most correct? loveisbook.net/
  • I've been wrongly accused in my job. But God has been so faithful. I will rest in Him because He is for me.
  • 1 Peter 4:17,18 seems to conflict that we're "Save by grace through faith". Could I get a little clarity with Peter's two letters and his intent?

Grace

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The Gospel is a gospel of grace. We are saved through faith. It's not by ourselves. When we speak of grace, we're talking about Jesus. Grace is one of those words that Satan attacks. We attach all kinds of adjectives to it and we rob it of it's real mean. Grace is what saves us, because it's attached to Jesus.
