Simple Gospel, Simply Grace - Part 17

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Once we understand that our sins are truly forgiven, then we are set free to live a life of joy. We must finalize Jesus' statement,"It is Finished", in our heart and mind. You are forgiven, completely and eternally. Our desire is that you finish this study knowing that you know that you are forgiven completely and forever.

Learn Who You Are

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

What does it really look like to live out who we are in Jesus Christ? "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence" 2 Peter 1:3 We have been redesigned from the ground up — recreated in Jesus to do good works he's prepared for you. We are new creations.

  • Shelley asks if it's proper to be baptized as an adult.
  • Since we are his workmanship are these works his nature? Ephesians 3:10

Walk the Way of Grace

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

Romans 6:14 is a great passage for us: "For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace." So what distinguishes us from the world? We're under grace, not the law. When we walk this true and begin to walk the way of grace you will stand out as someone different.

  • Could it be that "the faith of Abraham" which "credited righteousness" to one man has now been communicated to all the world through Christ with the forgiveness of sins?
  • Is it OK to watch programs with homosexual characters?
  • Why do pastors always use 1 John 1:9? It seems that every time you sin, you will go to hell unless you confess your sin.
  • In the Old Testament did only Jews go to Heaven before Jesus' death? Did non-Jewish people go to Heaven?
  • Katlego says: thanks. "I'm 21 and feel like I'm going in cycles, I feel stuck. I struggle with smoking, my grades are bad and it seems like sometimes I'm overwhelmed. How do I still focus on God?"

Maturing Faith

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

We are different from the world in that we are alive in Christ Jesus. What we're talking about is living out the Christian life. Three things that God commands us to do: 1. Welcome fellow believers. "Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." Romans 15:7 2. Forgive one another. "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you." Ephesians 4:32 3. Love others as Christ has loved us. "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you." John 15:12

  • Can Christians struggle with fear?
  • What if James isn't talking about salvation of works but maturity in faith to the saved?
  • How does Revelation 2:5 relate to salvation?

Listen to His Voice

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

"And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, 'This is the way, walk in it,' when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left." Isaiah 30:21 God is saying, "if you will listen to me, my voice is there." If we listen to His voice, you will defile your idols. Do not derive your identity from your government or any other thing or you will be disappointed. God is there with you.

  • Joseph asks, did Jesus pay for our sins at the Garden of Gethsemane or on the cross?
  • Kelly is struggling with anger. Specifically road rage. How can she overcome this anger?

Simple Gospel, Simply Grace - Part 16

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

In spite of the distractions of the world, the most important truth is the forgiveness of sins. We all long to be clear and righteous. Solving the sin issue is what frees us to experience life to the full. Today we begin with Jesus' triumphal march into Jerusalem. He marches into our hearts at the time we believe and delivers the forgiveness of the cross.

Unshakable

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth." 3 John 1:4 How do we walk in the truth? What sets us apart? The world has one answer, but we follow the answer given by God.

Only One Jesus

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

How can we stand against the current? What are the practical ways to live in this world. "But I am afraid that as the serpent deceived Eve by his cunning, your thoughts will be led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ." 2 Corinthians 3:11-12 There's only Jesus. The Jesus of the Bible.

Test the Spirits

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

We're going to look 1 John today and how we stand out in this world today. John narrows it down to one topic. "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world." 1 John 4:1-3

  • What does Matthew 15:24 mean? "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."

Rescued from Darkness

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

How do we stand out as believers in Christ in the culture of confusion. Paul looks at that in 2 Corinthians 5:20 "Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God." We are representatives of the Kingdom of God. We are make an appeal to people to be reconciled to God.

  • What do say to those who insist that you need to be baptized to be saved?
  • There are "so many ways to be saved". But who is preaching the right Gospel? I just want to know that I am saved.
  • What does the Bible say about lawsuits?
  • My other biggest challenge is that we are not even encouraged to give to the poor. Isn't it okay to take part of that offering and give it to someone in need?
  • Is there evidence of salvation?
