When the angels announced the birth of Christ to the shepherds, they said: "Fear not". But during the Christmas season we know many suffer from fear. And unfortunately it's not a time of celebration for them. But the Word of God has hope for them. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

We continue our discussion with Dr. John Lennox today. Dr. Lennox asserts that religion and science are compatible one with another. Specifically natural science and Biblical theism. The Judeo-Christian legacy in the Bible is the foundation for contemporary science. The beginning of scripture is a huge statement. If there is an intelligent God behind nature and if he has made us in his image then it is to be expected that we can understand nature. The same heavens and earth proclaimed as God's creation in Genesis are the very same heavens and earth that are studied by physicists and astrophysicists.

It can often seem that, in the 21st century, we have no need for religion when science has given us so many insights into the mysteries of this universe. Science and religion just do not mix. Drawing on his own experiences as a scientist and a Christian, and decades of good-natured discussion and debates about the relationship between them, Dr. Lennox suggests we can see these two presumed foes as good friends and enjoy and benefit from both of them.

Larry Alex Taunton joins us today to give his take on the word "courage" as it relates to Christianity. Joseph had to show great courage to accept the angel's pronouncement. Mary showed incredible courage to step out in faith and offer her body to God so that Jesus could be born. Why is there not a lot of courage today? A lot of it has to do with the fact that Christians have confused Christ's call to be salt and light with civility. Even social media influences our reluctance to show courage and speak truth. We try to make our message palatable to the world. Larry reminds us to make our stand on Jesus Christ, knowing that we serve a great God.

There is power in Gospel. So many try to water down the Gospel and in so doing, they take the power out of it. The power is contained in the death, the burial, and the resurrection. Christ was raised so that you and I could walk in the newness of life through his resurrection. "Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, 'Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me...' Hebrews 10:5-7 Why did Jesus come into this world? To do the will of God the Father.
