What's it Worth - part 1

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Richard Peifer shares his life in the 7th Day Adventist Church as he struggled to be good enough for God. On the outside he wore a mask of invincibility and perfection, but on the inside he knew better. The harder he tried, the more obvious it became that he could not succeed at living the Christian life.

Christ in You

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

Colossians 1:27 "To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory." Because of what Jesus Christ accomplished he has now come to live inside you. His presence guarantees you are in his favor. If God is for you, who can be against you?

  • How do I open my hear to receive anything from the Lord?
  • What happens to those who die without receiving Jesus Christ as their Savior? Is there another chance for them to accept his work?

In Him, You Have Rest

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

In Exodus 33, Moses gets a disturbing message from God. It is time to travel to the Promised Land, but God says he will not go before them because the people's hearts were hard. Moses advocates for his people and asks God to distinguish his people from all the rest by going with them to the Promised Land. God then promises that he will go with his people and give them rest. As believers, we have the same promise. Jesus lives in us and his presence means we are at rest. Once we know we are in the presence of God we can rest. Do you know that as a believer in Christ you can never be outside the favor of God? The Holy Spirit is the guarantee of that truth.

Ephesians - 6:21-23: Grace to All

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This session concludes our teaching on Ephesians. As Paul met with the Ephesian elders he said "I am here to testify to the gospel of God's grace". Ephesians is a book all about the grace of God. It ends with grace as well. It is God's grace that equips us to live abundant, productive lives. We have been placed into the body called the "church". In this body, we belong to one another - one in Christ. This grace empowers us to love Jesus Christ with an incorruptible love. It is not corrupted by the world, nor does it deteriorate. It is living and growing and animated by God's love for us.

Victory in Jesus Christ

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

One of the things that Paul addresses in his letters is the resurrection of the body. And a question that people ask is if we'll recognize people in Heaven. Let's look at 1 Corinthians 15:35 to answer that question. "But someone will ask, 'How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?'" and in vs. 42-44 "So is it with the resurrection of the dead. What is sown is perishable; what is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor; it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness; it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body."

  • Is that what Jesus meant when he said "you must be born again OF THE SPIRIT" .... does that mean it's only a spiritual body? 1 Corinthians 15:53

Present Yourself to God

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis

"For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. ... We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him." Romans 6:5-11 Consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. We've been given a deposit guaranteeing the future. Sin shall have no dominion over you since we are alive in Christ.

The Christ Event

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

It's the greatest story that has ever been told. It's what Richard would call "The Christ Event". It includes the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Just as he was raised, we are raised to the newness of life when we submit our lives to him.

  • As we celebrated his resurrection many lost their lives in the bombings in Sri Lanka. It's a sad story and one that is becoming more common. That is the number of Christians being martyred simply for declaring the name of Jesus.
  • How do we know the resurrection happened? "And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself." Luke 24:27
  • Clay says, "A changed life today is proof of Jesus' resurrection".
  • What is the proper answer to those who ask about self-love?

It is Finished!

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

It is Good Friday. It's an incredible day in the life of believers. It's the day when the will of God for mankind was executed by Jesus Christ himself. He came to take away our sins, to offer his body as the once and final sacrifice that would finish everything that needed to be done in regard to sin. The words he said on the cross, "It is finished", are the most powerful words ever spoken. These three words resonate deep within the heart and bring about the cleansing we all need and desperately desire. Once that happens we are cleansed forever and we have the confidence to go into the throne of grace.
