Resurrection - Your Hope or A Crazy Idea

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

God is all about new creation and resurrection is the means to this new creation. In Acts 26 we read Paul's defense before King Agrippa. "And for this hope I am accused by Jews, O king! Why is it thought incredible by any of you that God raises the dead?" Acts 26:7,8

The Resurrection and The Life

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Easter is coming up soon and we're looking at the Gospel - the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. As Jesus looked toward Calvary he received news that his friend Lazarus was sick. Instead of coming quickly he stayed away and he did so for a purpose. To show that we have hope of something more. "I am the resurrection and the life." This is one of the seven "I am" statements Jesus makes - all pointing to our hearts.

  • Is anything mentioned in scripture about church groups being involved with politics?
  • Why did God put the Ten Commandments in place since he is all knowing and knew that Jesus would come to save us from sin?
  • Can you elaborate on 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 regarding those who sleep in death. Are believers who have passed on waiting in sleep until His coming?

The Light That Gives Hope

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis

This month we will focus on the death, burial and the resurrection of Christ Jesus. Jesus gave his disciples the gospel story - that He would be put to death but on the third day would be raised from the dead. He delivered the good news to these men who were distressed. They failed to understand the hope of His message - resurrection. God's solution to death was resurrection. It took the Holy Spirit for them to understand all that they had seen and to recognize that they too had been raised to walk in the newness of life. Because it's true, you and I have hope. No matter how dark life gets for us, the resurrection of Christ is the light that gives us hope.

Today on Basic Gospel we will talk with Abdu Murray. Abdu is North American Director with Ravi Zacharias International Ministries and is the author of three books, including his latest, Saving Truth: Finding Meaning and Clarity in a Post-Truth World. For most of his life, Abdu was a proud Muslim who studied the Qur'an and Islam. Hope in the New Covenant

Richard Peifer, Bob Davis, Andrew Farley

Galatians 4:21 "Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says? For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. ... But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother." This New Covenant is the only covenant available. Any thing else, especially the Mosaic covenant, is slavery. The Mosaic Covenant was a beautiful covenant and did what it was supposed to do - point to Jesus. But Jesus fulfilled the Old and ushered in the New. It is Jesus or nothing. It is the New Covenant or nothing. Don't mix the old with the new, don't mix Jesus with Moses, don't comingle the covenants.

  • Morgan says "I am doubting God, and I don't think he loves me any more. I am losing hope."
  • Kevin asks "If God loves us, if we have peace with God, then what about Ephesians? It says we can grieve the Spirit. What does that mean?"
  • Chris asks "I have heard it said that we are not saved by faith PLUS works but by a faith THAT works. Which is correct?"

A Place of Rest

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The world is full of restless people. Restlessness is the result of sin. Adam and Eve were in a state of rest with God before the fall. A relationship with God starts from a place of rest through faith in Jesus' finished work. We don't try to earn God's favor; we simply rest in the work that Jesus accomplished for us. "There remains then a Sabbath-rest for the people of God" (Hebrews 4:9). If you believe that Jesus won the victory through his death, burial and resurrection then you can experience rest in your life.

  • Corey asks how to deal with people who accuse you of false teaching when you take a stand on the grace of God.

The Anchor for Our Soul

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

President Trump today recognized Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, an action which will receive pushback from the world. The Mueller report was presented to the Attorney General and is a political source of contention. That's why the gospel is so vitally important - it never changes, it is the anchor to our soul. The final promise of the NC is this "I will remember their sins and lawless deeds no more." The Old Covenant held an annual reminder of their sins. But, in the New, God promises to remember our sins no more. The blood of Jesus wiped out our sin debt; it was paid in full. We are forgiven people. That's good news!

  • A caller from Canada asks about Matthias being chosen as the apostle to replace Judas. Was that an unusual process? Is it possible it was a non-Spirit choice and that Paul should have been chosen?
  • Victoria in California asks how to reconcile with her sister. She has forgiven her in her heart but reconciliation seems impossible.
  • Manuel asks why the 7th Day Adventists believe in keeping the 10 Commandments.
  • Lisa asks about the Psalm that says "Delight yourself fin the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart". Is this an attempt to get God to do what you want?

Ephesians - 5:1-7: Remember Who You Are

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Jesus Christ offered himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Because the power of Christ lives in us, we have been equipped to live lives of love. We are connected to God the Father and our identity is derived from Him. Let thanksgiving replace sexual immorality, impurity or covetousness. Let your life be a fragrant offering of thanksgiving for all Christ has done. You are now in the light. Walk as children of light.

The Old and The New

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

What is the difference between the Old Covenant and the New? The Old was a contract between God and Israel. The New is God's promise to us. Galatians ‪3:21-23 highlights 3 other differences: The Old could not make us righteous, in the New we receive the gift of righteousness. The Old required our participation, the New is a gift. The Old could not impart life, but the New Covenant is a ministry of life. Once we turn to Jesus by faith, we are released from the Law and step into the New Covenant and it's better promises.

From the Inside Out

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

We received a letter today from a listener who writes: "I still don't get the difference between the old covenant and the new. Why am I living in the new and not the old?" Through the New Covenant we're not trying to obey Moses, we're not trying to uphold the Law, we are accepting the obedience of Jesus Christ so that we now live from the inside out.

  • Why do some still cling to the moral law and positional theology?
