The Resurrection Means Life

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Today let's put all the pieces of the Gospel together: the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ. "For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life." Romans 5:10 We were enemies - in rebellion toward God. But God so loved us that he sent Jesus. The resurrection of Jesus Christ validates his claims and gives it the seal of truth.

  • Brad calls to say thanks for the ministry of Basic Gospel.
  • Is it wrong to use the anointing oil that the high priests used?
  • I intercede for others on their behalf and ask God to forgive them, but never take their sins upon myself. What's your take on this?
  • Can God reject his people? Can we lose our salvation?
  • Can you provide some clarity on 1 Timothy 2:12?

The Jail Cell Is Open

"After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said, 'I thirst.' A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, 'It is finished,' and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." John 19:28-30 These are some of the most powerful words in the world. We're celebrating the death of Jesus and we're also celebrating our old selves being crucified in Him.

He Claimed "I AM"

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

It's interesting that the Good News story starts with death. And this week we're looking at the events leading up to His death. "Again the high priest asked him, 'Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?' And Jesus said, 'I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.' ..." Mark 14:61-64 Why was Jesus crucified? Because He claimed to be God and that was deserving of death.

  • I've been a Christian for years, but I've backslid. I struggle with sin and wonder about my salvation.
  • Jesse talks about the security of the believer that is promised throughout the New Testament.

The Father's Will

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

It's Easter week and this Sunday we will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. So this week we will look at Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection. Let's start in the garden of Gethsemane. We read his words in Matthew 26:39 "And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, 'My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.'"

Ephesians - 6:10-20: Take Your Stand

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We're talking about relationships in light of the fact that we are filled with the Holy Spirit. Love needs to be the compelling force in all relationships. In Ephesians 6 Paul is addressing those who are married, those who are fathers and those who are slave or master. The gospel of Jesus Christ dignifies all human beings and all are raised to the identity of child of God by God's action toward them through Christ. The admonition is to allow your new identity to shape your actions toward other people.

Walking in Dependence

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Andrew Farley

The compelling aspect of the Easter story is love. The love that God had for us and the love the Son had for the Father as Christ in obedience gave his life for us. John 14:31 "I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father." This love has been passed onto us as we walk in dependence upon Jesus just as he walked in dependence upon the Father.

Show Me Your Glory

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

I love everything that leads up to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. One of my favorites in the Mount of Transfiguration. Jesus asked Peter, "Who do you say that I am?" Peter answered: "You are the Christ." "This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him." Matthew 17:1-8 We can ask God to show us His glory and He will reveal Jesus Christ to us.

  • Why haven't we witnessed Jesus after the Resurrection? He showed himself to the disciples after death, but we have not witnessed him in his righteousness in the modern age.

  • Do you teach that a person has, since the resurrection of Jesus, had their sins removed or do you teach that sins are removed at salvation?

Arguments for the Resurrection

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer, Larry Alex Taunton

Larry Alex Taunton joins Basic Gospel today to talk about the foundation of Christianity - the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Larry and Bob discuss the evidence for the resurrection - the Bible and other writings. Science has proven that humans are born with an internal sense of a deity and they must choose to deny both the internal and external evidence of God.

What is Truth?

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This is the best time of the year for a believer as we celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Why? Because his story becomes our story and we experience new life in him. "Then Pilate said to him, 'So you are a king?' Jesus answered, 'You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world—to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.' Pilate said to him, 'What is truth?'" John 19:37,38

Ephesians - 5:21 - 6:9: Relationships

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Our relationships can become very frustrating if they are not anchored in the grace of God. The love of God is to control us in every relationship we have. It is God's love that becomes the motivating factor in all our relationships. To be filled with the Spirit means this - submission one to another. It's how Jesus lived his life - constant submission to his Father. These admonitions regarding marriage, parent/child relationship, and our work relationships are relationships of love - anchored firmly to the grace of God.
