The Gospel is Bearing Fruit

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

If I had one book to teach it would be the letter to the Colossians. In chapter 1:6 we read "the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God's grace." It's the truth about God's grace that transforms. What does His death, burial and resurrection mean to each one of us? Are you seeing the evidence of God's grace in your life?

  • To what extent does someone need to believe in the divinity of Jesus to be saved?
  • I feel called to the ministry. How do you know the will of God for the direction of your life?
  • Why is there a discrepancy in the Gospel accounts of Jesus drinking/not drinking the hyssop and vinegar?
  • What do you think of the prosperity gospel?

His Grace is Not Without Effect

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

The resurrection story changes us, it moves us forward, it's really about who we are. Paul says that Jesus appeared to him - the least of the Apostles. Paul persecuted the church of God and called himself the chief of all sinners. But God's grace changed him. He wrote in 1 Corinthians 15:10 "But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them—yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me." You and I know the Gospel message because of the work Paul did.

A Special Memorial Day Broadcast

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Welcome to a very special Memorial Day broadcast as we remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and the families they've left behind. We know what the Bible has to say about this: "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends. You are my friends if you do what I command."

  • There are two sacraments we celebrate as the church. Those are baptism and the Lord's Supper. The first thing we realize is that both of these start with the memory of sacrifice - Jesus' death on the cross. It's a time of celebration because of the freedom found through His sacrifice. It is a joyous occasion to remember all that Christ's death accomplished for us. God remembers our sins no more. We have been set free from the law of sin and death. Through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ we have been made holy. We have been set apart for God's use. Apart from Jesus' sacrifice that would not be possible.
  • Today, as you remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, think about what Jesus has done for you by His death.
  • All of us look for a sense of purpose. What is our purpose in life? It is to be used by God. That's what it means to be made holy - to be set apart by God for His use. Jesus made that possible. There is nothing more worthwhile than to make ourselves a "living sacrifice" for God's work.
  • Philippians 2:12, 13 "Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."

The New Temple of God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

We see that one of the themes throughout the Bible is God trying to find a home on Earth. Initially it was in the Garden. Later it was the Tabernacle. And we see that David had the desire to build the Temple. On the day of Pentecost a new temple was established. We have become the new temple of God. In 1 Corinthians 3:16 we read "Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in your midst?" and again in 6:19 "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?"

  • Philippians 4:8 tells me what to think about —"Whatever is true, pure, lovely...". What do I think about based on this verse? Do I think about what Jesus has done for me?
  • When Jesus said, "I go to prepare a place for you" - was He saying He would prepare a place through the cross?
  • In regards to grace and sin, Teresa asks, "who would willfully want to grieve a loving and compassionate Father?"
  • Does our holiness have to do with our appearance as well as our heart?

Invited Into the Throne Room of God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Living out the Gospel in daily life is made possible by Pentecost. There's great significance we find in the Old Testament. 50 days after the Israelites left Egypt they camped at Mt. Sinai and were given the law. We see the Old Covenant law written on stone at the mountain and now as a result of Pentecost we have the New Covenant law written on our hearts. Romans 8:2 describes this as the Spirit of Life. James calls it the law of liberty.

Christ in You, The Hope of Glory

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost. This distinguishes Christianity from every other religion on earth. The very Spirit of God — the teacher — comes to live in believers. Paul put it this way in Colossians 1:27: "To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory."

  • What is the true mode for baptism? In the name of Jesus or the Father, Son, and Holy Spirt?
  • Why does Paul's statement seem uncertain in 2 Corinthians 13:14 "May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all."
  • Why does Paul continue to pray for things we should already have? 2 Thessalonians 1:11 "With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may bring to fruition your every desire for goodness and your every deed prompted by faith."
  • How do we grow in grace? Is it through our intentional work to grow?
  • Don asks the question: "What are we doing with the reality of Christ in us?"
  • I'm confused with the churches where the emphasis was on the ministers and not Jesus.

The Very Presence of God

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

Pentecost really is the intersection of the Gospel and our daily lives. It's a wonderful truth and so often it's not taught. Acts 2:1-4 "When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them."

  • When Jesus said "if you deny me before men, I'll deny you before the father", does that apply to me?
  • Is it right for me to be bothered when I hear pastors on the radio or behind the pulpit to describe what my Lord did on the Cross as atonement?
  • Can you help me understand Hebrews 6? "Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death,[a] and of faith in God..."

The Intersection of His Life and Ours

Bob Christopher, Bob Davis, Richard Peifer

This Sunday we will celebrate Pentecost. It is not often celebrated in the US. But it is one of the most important days in a believer's calendar. It truly connects us to Jesus' life. His life becomes our life. It marks the place and time when Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection intersects with our lives. When you hear the word "Pentecost", what comes to mind?

  • Was the gifts of tongues to prove to the Jewish people that He was grafting others into the Kingdom?
