One of the things being talked about these days is freedom. What does freedom look like from God's vantage point? Regardless of what government system you live under, you are free to love. Paul talks about freedom in Galatians 5 "For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. ... For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'" Galatians 5:1,13-14

It's interesting that the good news story starts with death. But you can't have a resurrection without death. Jesus Christ was raised from the dead. So how does that impact us? Paul tells us we've been taken into the story in Romans 6:3-4... "Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? ..."

John tells the story of the resurrection focused on Mary's discovery of the stone being rolled away. She thought someone stole the body. The tomb was empty. But Jesus was still in the garden and when he said "Mary..." she recognized Jesus immediately. The resurrection became personal to Mary.

On this Good Friday let us focus on the sacrifice Jesus made upon the cross to provide forgiveness for our sins. Let's take a fresh look at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. This week we celebrate the most significant story in human history. It's a story that impacts us because it involves us. It's the only story of solid hope that anchors us day in and day out. What happened to Jesus after he was arrested? "But he remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked him, 'Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?' And Jesus said, 'I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.' ... Mark 14:61-65

We're celebrating Holy Week this week. We're celebrating the events that led up to the ushering in of the New Covenant. We're looking at how the sacrifice of Jesus Christ impacted our story. "When the hour came, Jesus and his apostles reclined at the table. And he said to them, 'I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you, I will not eat it again until it finds fulfillment in the kingdom of God.' ... This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me. ... This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you." Luke 22:14-15,19-20

2 Thessalonians 5:16 "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." This circumstance that we're going through is not judgment from God. We have the grace of God to guide us through these times as we walk in dependence upon Jesus Christ. He has been faithful and will continue to be faithful.
